Company History

  • In 1949, Edgar Johnson established Johnson Foods as J&G Brokerage Co. Mr. Mrs. Johnson and their five children owned the company's stock. The company initially sold fresh asparagus from an 8,000 square-foot facility at 336 Blaine Avenue in Sunnyside, Washington.
  • In 1968, Johnson Foods was renamed Johnson Fruit & Cold Storage Co., Inc in 1980, it was renamed to Johnson Fruit Co.
  • In the late 1970s and 1980s, the company began selling maraschino cherries and frozen cherries.
  • In 1986, George Johnson, Edgar Johnson's son, purchased the company from his parents and siblings. Mr. Johnson now owns 100% of the company's shares.
  • In the early to mid - 1990's, Johnson Foods further diversified its products offering by selling frozen asparagus and pickled vegetables.
  • During the late 1990's, the company expanded its production capacity with the purchase of the cannery located one block away from the main plant. The facility is used for processing and canning maraschino cherries and pickled vegetables.
